My millimetercutting of Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev was the second portrait I ever cutted.

On the one hand I had chosen him as he was a prominent political actor in my youth. It is still hard to think of German reunification without mentioning him – the probably most significant moment in my youth and life. On a personal note: I would never have had the opportunity to study in Leipzig without this cut in history.

His concepts of „Perestroika“ (restructuring) and „Glasnost“ (openness), starting in 1986, were groundbreaking for what was about to come.

P.S.: I am writing this as a German citizen, knowing that my perceiption of Gorbatchev is driven by his role in the process of the German reunification. I am absolutely aware that people in other countries (p.e. in Georgia) may have different thoughts about him.
